It's "Asterix and Friends", a slow-paced mobile/browser game where you manage the Gaulish village with Asterix, Obelix and villagers who look like the canon villagers but aren't really them, collect resources, collect and craft items and send your villagers to fight Romans. There are also two minigames: The Village Brawl and Centurion Punch Tournament.
Depending on a villager's level, you can equip him with up to 3 items: weapon, helmet and armor, which increase the villager's strength, speed of recovery and decrease amount of damage they get themselves.
Oneday I won a pair of Roman street cats. They are in the category of... weapons against Romans. Unlike the usual weapons, a cat can only be used in one fight but greatly increases the villager's strength.
I can imagine legionaries falling for a cat's cuteness at first, then the cat attacks them and they struggle getting it to leave them alone...

Well... In this game real money can be used to buy Roman helmets (in this game they are the secondary currency, the primary currency are sesterces), and the game shows you offers after you reach a new level, which is annoying at early stages of the game... But I never spent real money in this game, and it's possible to get Roman helmets by doing in-game things.
TL;DR: real money isn't necessary, but it can make the game go faster and easier.
I suppose I could appreciate company in this game. I have a small guild and I'm the only one who still plays.
Rupes, games pop up, make some cash then people hop on the next thing. Unless it's by Nintendo... People stick by the big N like mold onto that sandwich you were gonna finish later on and now found in your fridge a month later.

But really. The mobile game space is weird. I guess it makes sense for a Asterix based one. I feel like Asterix has been going in pretty hard after the new movies. Seen only the first but it was really good.
"Asterix and Friends" has been there since 2016, judging by the News section on the game's website, so this is between the two latest cartoons. And they didn't write about any updates since 2017... ಠ_ಠ
EDIT: I stumbled upon a 2014 drawing of Pointandclix, so the game was already open in 2014...
