Oh my, this quest is a perfect example of how you should pay attention to the wording of tasks. Collect = just put it in your inventory from anywhere. Doesn't matter what you do with it afterwards. Deliver = you must have the item in your inventory. When all requirements are met and you finish the quest, the item will disappear. Craft = you need to craft it. If you get it while harvesting/fighting or you buy it, that won't count. Do whatever you want afterwards.

It's even worse when you try to jump on platforms in front of your (real) face. You don't understand how far you're jumping until it's too late.
