For "special effects" - in later ELB games he's credited as "special effects and menu"
Or "special effects and interface"
XXL was never really big on UI design
just look at the OG merchant...
The menu interface in XXL2 is pure joy: It's fast, has satisfying sound effects, and that menu music...
my personal highlight is the spinning CD loading screen
Also, the special fx in xxl2 were just as great
The merchant has some voice lines that are unused, and they are present in all hub levels meaning he was supposed to be also in other areas than just in front of the events, but I guess they had to scrap it.
The xxl2 remaster menu be like
I remember when OG was announced, Atari put out a press release where they were saying something about "mixing action adventure gameplay with RPG elements"
I guess all that's left from that are the permanent shield upgrades
But yeah, looking back at it, I think the XXL franchise has always suffered from cut content and not fully realised visions
at least it had visions, in contrast to most licensed games today...
that's what made them (and all ELB games) special
