You know what's also a good example of unnecessary successors? Harry Potter!
Take first half of Philosopher's Stone, add the ending of 4, the Horkrux explanation of 6 and then just go straight to 7. Everything in between is not needed in ANY way for the story. It's just to extend it
and I don't know if I even have a favourite game of all time...
Guess that would be Sly 2: Band of Thieves. I played it so much in my childhood

They look interesting though
One is horrible, two is absolutely complettely awesome and three is still good :3
I've yet to play the fourth one, though
As far as I heard it seems to be really good and can easily compete with 2 and 3
but the other problem that I heard is that it seems that they also already had the guarantee for a fifth part, so they went a little open end and then the fifth one got scratched
but that's just what I heard. Haven't played it myself yet, as said before
