I always thought AoE is just rip off CoC but with more realistic graphics and stuff
AoE is really its own thing. However many many ripoffs of Age circulate.
AoE managed to stand out during the time where there were non stop RTS games spamming the market,
And it SURVIVED to this day.
AoE 2 is the most successful with an incredible timeline:
1999: Age of Empires 2 - The Age of Kings
2000: The Conquerors Expansion ( + 5 Civs )
2001: PS2 port in Europe and Japan ( Age of Kings )
2006: Nintendo DS Turn-based Strategy version ( Age of Kings )
2012: The Forgotten Empires ( Fan patch, + 5 Civs )
---
2013: Age of Empires 2 HD: port of the game on Steam with modern features, includes The Forgotten
2015: The African Kingdoms Expansion (HD) ( + 4 Civs )
2016: Rise of the Rajas Expansion (HD) ( + 4 Civs )
---
2019: Age of Empires 2 - Definitive Edition ( All content of HD remade in 4K + 4 Civs )
2021: Lords of the West Expansion (DE) ( + 2 Civs )
We went from 13 to 37 playable civilizations, and countless balance changes.
Not even TF2 could be proud of such an history despite being first developped in 98.
Civilization VI

I played the DS version yarny btw, it's.... something XD
DS version is really broken though. If you make a save file using 3 letters of less it will brick the cartridge.
I've never had any nintendo consoles apart from the Wii
I've wanted the switch but people say the joy-cons break easily
And Nintendo show no will to do anything about it.
Other than sell more of them fuckers 😒
