it would be the same game, just the visuals are different
you can try to make new levels, but when they are not good, you'll have to change it back
i know for sure that reusing the existing levels has no future, there were already some difficulties trying to add new stuff into them which resulted in very annoying bugs and generally hacky stuff like the rome torch puzzle
true, but still you have to reach the qualility of these levels first; if they are not the same qualitiy, it won't be worth it
the goal is to be able to implement new stuff with what the game offers, for example something like rising lava from XXL2, where would you add this in the current world? I know that there is a risk of it not having the same visual quality, but the ability to create new puzzles and likewise definitely outweighs that
to be fair it would be cool to play XXL in a different world
the world still must be good
example: Just a green plane with a blue skybox is not good (trivial example)
😅 of course not something like that
if you think the art i did on beta rome is decent, im sure that what i will create won't be shit ^^
also it opens up the possibility to experiment with non-linear level design, which XXL is notorious for
i already have some ideas in mind, like the rising lava i mentioned earlier, or a moving boat which helps you cross some lake
I am open for it. If i don't like it I clearly say it
Some experiments i did with a moving boat: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/700707707845476454/920422263994597376/Boat.mp4
thats definitely one of the things i would like to add in, but of course there is no place in the existing world to add something like this in (except if you want to remove the boat rides

)
good idea. Will it stay like Gaul, Normandy, Greece, Helvetia, Egypt, Rome? or do you wanna make new Areas
Yeah, new Areas that should resemble the original game
I mean like new countries
for example russia (why the hell idk)
the plan would be to have a new world, that is the size of rome more or less, but packed with custom fights, puzzles, etc.
