A "vertical slice" is typically a level of a game that is supposed to use all of its core functionalities as they could be encountered in the middle of the final game.
It's a level that is produced as a prototype but plays like it could have been "sliced" right out of the middle of the game. That's why it's called "vertical slice". These prototypes ususally do not end up in the final game, and they more often than not end up being completely different to the final product. So I don't think there's any reason to think that this level could be considered cut content from the main game.
In this case the vertical slice is missing all of the puzzle mechanics and is purely focused on the fighting mechanics, which leads me to believe that "Next Generation Asterix" was originally planned to be a pure fighting game.
What _would_ be cool, if a playable version of this vertical slice map could be found and included in the remaster as a bonus. But I doubt they even have access to these files anymore. Remember, they didn't have access to the original cutscenes from XXL2 either, which is why their resolution is still awful.
Now I Wonder Is There A Way To Make Asterix Playable In The Menu Level? (i want to put asterix in play mode in this cutscene in the menu)
