Don't know, but I can pretty much feel when Obelix is gonna attack, and it's kinda avoidable too.
I would describe it as I feel, without any certainty : If Obelix can't reach you but its pathfinding exists according to the grid, he will hit the enemies that block him...
the second character doesn't make a punch, though
and it's not affected with Romans
the pathfinding part is true, but it has nothing to do with actual enemies
I have noticed that if the second character goes offscreen, they stop attacking the enemy

I don't know how but I know we can avoid Obelix hit the boars in the corridor of Gaul
I feel like Obelix' AI might be programmed to hit boars in particular, though
