Unless you walk upwards, then you should jump because you get slowed down. When you walk downwards, walk normally, you will get a little extra speed sometimes
and unless you're in a slide, there you should always jump unless you slide upwards

At least I learned from this that there are some charakter switches that only trigger once and some trigger every time. First ones can lead to being able to continue as the charakter you're not supposed to be
