I did flybash several times when I played the game often, between 2007 and 2014, but at that time I didn't think it was a glitch. Also, I casually realized that Rome catapult skip was probably possible, but I didn't care to try it because I thought it would make me unable to end the game, since you need Obelix in the end (so I tried to convince myself it wasn't possible), and I didn't think of speedrunning. I became interested in early 2017 when I saw Rome arena passive lock video (another thing I realized years before but didn't care to exploit for the same reason).
