Mr.Rubinshtein
@Bread nah I am nerd boy. Every nerd can do this ^^
PegPeregoGaucho
Textures would need to be redone for bumpmaps
PegPeregoGaucho
And UE is way too modern for something like an accurate XXL port :/
Mr.Rubinshtein
Okay so I did a huge research today And first of all. Firs shader ever was used in 2001 and the first GPU which was able to do that was Nvidia Geforce 3(NV20) And the only shaders which existed back then were pixel and vertex ones.Which proves that XXL already had shader system used.So moving forward are the normal maps which started to be used in late 2003 and XBOX popularized their usage. From here we can make conclusion that the XXL game doesn't have any normal maps or even ambient occlusion which will be first used in 2005. So moving way forward now the game used a baking technology pretty obviously. At that time it was already possible to bake lighting and bake the high poly details on low poly. Also don't forget that real-time shadows were already invented and used in silent hill in 2001.
Mr.Rubinshtein
@PegPeregoGaucho and here comes the shaders for help. In any type of modern engine you can achieve any type of shader you want.It can be comics styled it even can be oil painting styled just anything. That's the amazing thing about shaders. You even can get ps1 game quality shader style. You just need to tweak shader right to accurately simulate the same effect as XXL does.
PegPeregoGaucho
Do you even know what a shader is
Mr.Rubinshtein
Yes I do
PegPeregoGaucho
Tell us
Mr.Rubinshtein
Shader is a let's you get the right graphics visualization you need
Mr.Rubinshtein
More specifically you process information through GPU which let's you be flexible in terms of graphics style.
Mr.Rubinshtein
Thats my general understanding of it and experience I had
PegPeregoGaucho
So everything the GPU does is a shader
Mr.Rubinshtein
Not specifically Shader is part of information which your GPU generates
Mr.Rubinshtein
Shaders are generated through coding and visual nodes nowadays
PegPeregoGaucho
I see
PegPeregoGaucho
And what does the shader do that XXL uses?
Mr.Rubinshtein
Well I don't know what it does in XXL I wasn't the developer But I can say you for sure that at that time shaders were already in use. In the short research I wrote upper.
PegPeregoGaucho
So you don't have any proof of a shader existing in xxl if I'm reading this right
Mr.Rubinshtein
Nope I don't have any proof
Mr.Rubinshtein
But as I said upper shaders were already in use at that time
