Back then these type of games didnt really have normal maps,height maps,curvature and such things and they pretty much had only specular effect set on base color texture

Which is why its easier to just add a detail and import it back

I remember some 2000's casual games with 3D models had texture files that were regular images, I didn't do anything with them but they were fun to dig in
