Bed rock was supposed to be Minecraft but not in Java... It was the chosen one... And it fucked it D:
Bedrock makes playing with friends way more straightforward, and has considerably higher performance ( you usually don't see someone who plays Java extensively without using Optifine, and therefore having some technical knowledge of getting Java edition to run well and fancy ), so it's very well suited as a user-friendly experience...
I've never played bedrock but I seriously don't hate on it.
Gameplay differences suck, for sure, but both versions have their ups and downs in that regard
Bedrock makes you pay money for features which were previously free, like skins, mods and texture packs. Even if you want to play with friends you need to buy a "Realm"...
