Just found a little strat: After talking to Epidemais in Gaul, do Getafix' sidequest. That way, you can teleport to him after the second camp and skip a lot of backtracking.

oh right, you can get back to them by restarting the quest in the menus. I totally forgot about that

Another skip: If you jump just far enough from this corner, the game saves and you can die or restart to skip this fight in Thule
