But "luckily" Asterix games are not that much known that they don't have a score on MetaCritic
thewitheredstriker
game journalists are unreliable for a wide plethora of reasons
thewitheredstriker
some examples being their homogenous nature (i.e. lack of diversity, especially in genre taste) and their disinterest in actually playing video games (most only play small chunks of games so that they can shit out an article as fast as possible with as little effort as needed)
thewitheredstriker
as a result they often tend to suck ass in gaming too, hence leading to the "IGN playing 1-1 in Super Mario Bros." meme
thewitheredstriker
but perhaps the best example is GameSpot failing to get past the Bubble Bowl "puzzle" in Mermalair in Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated
thewitheredstriker
critic reviews and player reviews are also commonly the full opposite
thewitheredstriker
for example, player reception to TLoU Part 2 was highly negative, but critics gave it perfect scores
thewitheredstriker
by contrast, BfBB: Rehydrated was lambasted even though players loved it

It's true I don't look at reviews that much, especially when I rarely buy games nowadays
thewitheredstriker
I also notice that critics always praise and lambast the same genres on average
thewitheredstriker
Narrative heavy first-person action-adventure games, kinda like what Sony barfs out en masse, tend to almost always be loved by critics
thewitheredstriker
by comparison, platformers are a very hard sell on them
thewitheredstriker
it's really just the tip of the iceberg on why game "journalists" are literal jokes and should not, in any possible way, shape or form, be taken seriously
