What exactly was broken/borked/removed?
I know about music having problems with looping in Romastered
well XXL romaster was a terrible release because they on purpose filtered original textures through some shitty AI or some upscaler and worsened the quality of the original looks
their engine terribly handles light rendering because of which ligh would constnatly change its direction depending on where your camera would face
its really hard to begin anywhere because there are so many issues with XXLR that they have been already memed a lot in the community for their poor quality
I've overheard, that they fixed most lighting issues in the unannounced update
i dont think so
there are areas where they didnt even care about vertex colored shadows and left them untouched for example
and on top of that applied dynamic light in the world which makes it look like double shadows coming from two different directions
They did the same thing with Mafia II DE
