Basically in the UK you have 4 major tests
SATs (age 10-11), GCSEs (age 15-16), A-Levels (age 17-18 (usually)) and then a Degree (age 18+)
SATs are basically a cake walk and aren't very important
GCSEs are important as they give you the base grades for subjects you choose not to do in college, and also let you get into better colleges
A-Levels are the grades for a specific subject, they're basically your foundation qualifications
