This is one of the points in the game where Lafort's strengths add to the original well. The string arrangement at this part of the OST is 3x more interesting than in the original.

Honestly, for me the new soundtrack is a huge plus for the remaster already
herrepsilon
all of it though?
failentin
Not every track is great, that's for sure, but there are definitely gonna be a couple ones I like
herrepsilon
the gaul battle theme is... not my taste...
herrepsilon
yeah, I feel there's gonna be a few I will like
failentin
I really like the Gaul battle remix actually ^^
failentin
I feel rather mixed on SPQR and the bit I could hear of Roman Empire though
failentin
But to think it always made my day when Gino shared a new snippet of his own rearrangements/remixes... Now we're about to get a full remix of the whole soundtrack, what more could I wish for? 😄

the SPQR theme
herrepsilon
oh yeah, those two... Roman Empire was a huge question mark for me - this was the core battle track of the original, I feel (which is why I named it "The Roman Empire" so grandly, when I assembled the soundtrack years ago). This version is not giving me anything tbh
pegperegogaucho
the hihat + bass combo.... its like EDM
pegperegogaucho
but yeah i somewhat agree with failentin, its not better but it isn't shit
failentin
It's funny however how the remastered battle themes are even more unfitting for an Asterix game than the old ones 😆
failentin
like, as much as I dig the Gaul battle remix, it's certainly not what I'd expect to hear in an Asterix game ^^

That's the thing, LaForest somehow managed to keep his electronic trance rave music grounded in some sort of esoteric ethno-celtic voodoo
