I played XXL on Windows 7 and 10 just fine
maybe it depends if you're using 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 7

The game is using direct sound, which is very old (now). You should investigate it on your system.
but its not only on the game my pc doesn't repair any audio devices
maybe download some drivers or sth xdd
its weird cuz i can see my speakers are connected in the drivers manager but my sound doesn't work i tried everything but i cant my sound was working one month ago
