Some of you know maybe that the Avermedia LGP comes with a proprietary video input cable, that has all component RCAs (female)

So even years ago it was possible for me to plug the PS2 using component Y Pb Pr to the capture card. However, that came with limitations.

The video would be forced to progressive 25fps, completely ignoring the fact that the game shown here can output 50 unique fields per second ( not everywhere of course, the graphics for this game pushed hard and the framerate would often go way below! )

Even worse, the HDMI output of the capture card doesn't even work with my PC monitor, and i recall my TV back then also having massive trouble keeping the signal on.

Now, instead, you could let the Retroscaler do the HDMI conversion for you.

As a result, you get the full 50fps, interlaced 576i of course ( the game renders internally at 512x512 )

excuse the shitty 5mb/s bitrate, i forgot to upgrade the bitrate setting from my VHS workflow.

It's hard to get progressive output out of the PS2, very few games actually do that, and progressive actually forces 480p and not 576p on PAL games. Rayman 3 is a game with progressive support so i'm going to test that quickly.
martyste
( it does make me confused as to how so many games, including XXL2/OG don't interlace on emulator. XXL for GC is also interlaced on console ( the PAL gamecube did not support progressive for any PAL games for the matter ), but perfectly progressive on Dolphin.

I have good news for PS2 users that have a FreeMCBoot memory card

Open PS2 Loader can change the display mode of games ( GSM mode ), and setting OG to "HDTV 576 PAL" results in getting the *exact 1:1 512x512* framebuffer of Asterix OG, still at 50fps! i had to take out the Retroscaler for that tho!
martyste
( this time i show that yes, the game skips frames looking at the full level, so you can see the difference better between 25 and 50 )
martyste
Of course, repeating the same for XXL1 gives you a line-doubled 256p, but remains 50fps, so technically it's appreciable on modern monitors. Time to see if my emulator patch works on console too.
