I'm thinking in that position, the game thinks you are oob. But when you jump, you get additional height, which could be enough to get you "below the ground" for the game to think you are hitting a ceiling.

It's a bit complicated. When the game is searching for a ground, it looks below or above in a certain depth. When you jump, this range is extended.
