that sound so much better!
and the game runs as smoothly as with the old dsound patch again -- meaning I don't have to use the cheat tool fps patch!
thanks so much, that's the perfect solution!
here's a comparison in XXL1:

unfortunately, in both versions the sound effects are kinda scuffed compared to what we were used to.
but the music sounds very significantly better in Creative ALchemy, which to me was the main point.
in the first version is kinda sounds like pressed onto my ears
second version definettly better. Not quite the perfect result, but surely better
@hesopesomeso have you opened that ticket you wanted to open towards microsoft about the bug?
and here's the comparison for XXL 2:

for XXL2 I'd say it sounds nearly the original. in XXL1 I can still hear a clear difference
notice how in both versions, the menu music sounds pretty quiet and kinda shitty.
that's because -- and I never knew this! -- the menu music is treated like sound effects.
if you lower sound volume in the game settings, the menu music gets affected, but not if you lower music volume.
I actually wonder how the old dsound-version isn't working when you put it into the directory, like in theory it should work because it is still the old, working dll brought to the application directly instead of somewhere on the PATH-variable.
sooo yeah, there's still some way to go on the sound effects side. I wonder if there's any setting in the patch that could still be tweaked for the perfect experience.
but for the time being, I'm super glad that the music is back to how it should be overall.
I also wonder if this sound patch is prone to crashes like the original dsound -- hopefully not xD
