It's not the same engine either.
Because the remasters are based on the original.
They took the source code and integrated it into their own engine OEngine, and basically redirect the graphics and sounds from Renderware to OEngine.
So it's the same game using Kal engine mixed with the OEngine to handle modern graphics.
So if I understand correctly, it will also work with the Nintendo Switch version following this logic.

Yeah, they couldn't rerelease the game with the original graphics engine Renderware since it doesn't support modern platforms.
So using OEngine was one solution to provide support to other platforms.

You can't do that right now.
It is still limited, especially for XXL2 and Olympic Games.
