The enemy interface has state procedures (for states like attack, defend, panic, etc.). If they are not initialized (in case of the archer), crash.

The new animations might be different because they were exported from a Blender plugin which might only use uncompressed key frames or something like that

Turns out I did a check for the used bone list to determine if to skin a model, but in the case of the newer guys (exported with DragonFF), it is empty. Does that mean it uses all of them? . Anyways, that's fixed.
