They used special ebony wood for the romaster spears!
adrientd
So that means that for some reason the Remaster is using vertex colors, when in the original they didn't have.
adrientd
In fact I noticed that there are lot of things that have vertex colors when I don't think the original had, like all Roman models.
adrientd
The Romans only use normal lighting so they don't use vertex colors.
filip5011
is that why theres that one pure black horse in Normandy
filip5011
probably where all the budget went
pegperegogaucho
All clones in the romaster have additional vertex coloring
pegperegogaucho
That is also why the spiky ball looks beat up
adrientd
Oh that's why, why didn't the devs find that out
pegperegogaucho
Normally the clones would have received dynamic vertex coloring (real-time) but probably that was some part of Renderware they did not "recreate" so we got the vertex coloring from I guess the source assets? I believe ELB vertex colored them all by hand originally, but the coloring went unused in the final game. You can still see vertex coloring on the models in the intro cutscene, it looks like the vertex coloring of the romaster
adrientd
So the romaster strictly uses vertex colors without normal lighting?
pegperegogaucho
Yeah
adrientd
The guy spent time to make accurate shaders for the water, but then completely forgot to use normal lighting on the clones
pegperegogaucho
Maybe he did not know as a super fan
adrientd
lol
adrientd
The black horse actually has a black texture:
adrientd
It's based on a black horse model that is unused in the original game:

Or does someone remember a black horse in the original?
