Back to Asterix; I only have level 1 remaining for my no air punches no damage challenges. I considered going for a full game no damage clear but I don't think I have the time for it
And then I'm gonna do speedruns. But I'm not making it a promise this time... sorry. I've ruined all my previous ones, so their worth are very low.
balneor
And I just had two glitches
balneor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmGF5_Z03nw One of the enemies went off-screen, and it never came back for some reason, so the stage softlocked
balneor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbdxa9X9U4M And here's a invisible wall that appears out of nowhere
I've seen similar wonky invisible walls around the edges of rooms a couple times. But never in the middle of the area like that.
balneor
Did level 1. I can finaly practice speedruns

The other runner of this game used Asterix. But I'm gonna use Obelix instead.
Both characters have differences, but it's hard to see which one would lead to a faster time.
You might think that Asterix is better for speedrunning because he moves faster. And while that's a fair point, movement isn't everything in this game. There's also uh, fighting, in fact heavily so.
And Asterix sucks at fighting compared to Obelix.
Sure, his air punches are slightly more convenient to use. But sometimes it's much faster to use land punches instead, which Obelix excells at.
I don't really care if it ends up being slower or not, I've had my overdose of Asterix and want to play with an actually fun character.
I'm gonna figure out my own strats for doing stuff, and only look at the other player's time once I have a roughly completed route.
Having to avoid the bonus enemies will definitely be an annoying aspect of the speedrun. Can't wait to lose runs to that.
kolapro
I wasn't teasing, just felt bad, I'm not knowledgable in that game
balneor
It's okay
balneor
I finally *finally* ***finally*** started practicing the game with Obelix, and it seems like a lot of fun already
balneor
I also just found out a weird bug that makes Obelix even better ?
balneor
When Asterix receives a light hit, he's stunned and can't be moved for a small amount of time.
But when Obelix receives such a hit, his animation is actually so short that you can nearly instantaneously move again. It's so sudden that it really seems like a bug.
Either way, that means more control maneuver for Obelix, and well, I'm all for it.
balneor
Asterix can't move for nearly 16 frames (60fps). But Obelix only has a 5 frame delay

Finally (*finally*) finished practicing level 1.
Its quite a tedious process to learn these stages. Got to memorize every encounter and every quick kill strats
Doesn't help that level 1 is the hardest for me to remember. I have a much better picture of the later levels
balneor
I did one mediocre run of the level, and I was faster than Contos by two minutes.
As I watched his run's first level again, it was very clear that his play wasn't optimized in the slightest. He most likely started speedrunning it right after being done with his normal playthrough. Nothing wrong with that of course.
balneor
Sub 7:00 level 1 is defo possible
Now to practice level 2
balneor
I'll be back soon
balneor
Finished learning level 2. It's surprising how much stuff you can get away in that level
Did a test run that was okay
Now to compare it to what the current run does
I didn't die a single time
balneor
Okay so I found out yet another advantage to Obelix
balneor
He can double-hit stuff with a single air punch
Things like crates. But also certain enemies, like the hornpipe egyptians in level 2
I'm gonna make a quick compilation so you guys can see
