During my visit to OSome back then, i did a few more things, to step where ELB once did, and take pictures similar to those they did.
Then, I went full circle and added myself to one of the gallery pictures of XXL1, while standing exactly where the devs stood for the photo!
I'm... trying not to cringe tho, my fursuit head didn't look too great and I modified it significantly since, and added a complete body.
I only have one regret from that day, that was not taking a solid moment to read that huge *FOLDER* full of documents of the original XXL development. It had all the scrapped costumes as seen on RE-7, but also level designs before 3D mesh, and possibly what would have been used as the reference to make whole of Rome. A recipee for us to fill the gaps!
My fleeting memory chose to not remember any of it.
There's so much more i could talk about, but i don't want to drown you in my autistic hyperfixations. Besides, it will be easier for me when i'm not still working on a romhack project, i have a 3D model to make that must work on real N64, and I'm also drawing all the textures...
I'm happy you got to witness this community i fostered ( despite it suffering from a split a few years ago, and some bad actors ), where the legacy of these games will never fade... we want to see them fully preserved for the future. And so that we can still speedrun it, despite Windows growing worse each day.
hum maybe I have this file on my PC, I should look for it
It's really cool to have this community of XXL fans, these games really made an impression on me too! I wanted to speedrun a game and I thought, "why not XXL2?" Now I need to find the time to do it, but it's really fun to follow your discussions here
it was papers, so unless you got that scanned.... ^^;
( well, tbh a lot of it was originally in digital form since it's full of Adobe Illustrator 2D representation of levels )
Ono, indeed
Did we have that at OSome? I'm surprised
That large folder was in the same room where our photo was taken, iirc
Interesting, I'll ask my colleagues at OSome about it next time!
I am still in contact with them
Also, the Remasters both took with them more "beta" files than the originals shipped with. Many unused sectors in XXL2 Pirates, and a ton of voicelines for both games. Even the "Go go go go !" lines that were only used in the circa 2002 XXL trailer.
Oh, that would be amazing. Let them know, any of them are welcome to have a chat here, away from Microids' glare...
I may have had a "ambassador" role in their server, I... respectfully kept my distances from the people who made poor time/budgetal decisions for my beloved games.
I maybe still have my playtesting discord group with Mat and some others, but i never found the courage to speak to them again.
Mat, are you talking about the boss of OSome?
