It wouldn't be my preferred way to play the PS2 games, but now for PS1 I'm sold, the picture quality is just too good. ( That doesn't need mods if you have the real discs )

There's no risks, but arguably there's not much to gain if your plan isn't to record you PS1/2 games in the highest possible quality, *avoiding* illegal emulation on your PC.
A PS2 can still satisfy fully the gaming part.
Well... a PS2 Slim does come with a few issues, but a Fat PS2 will just to a decent job.
I still couldn't bring myself to do it.
You see, i am a very, very cautious individual. I see danger in almost everything, even harmless things.
Again, I'm not suggesting you to do so, don't worry :3
I'm only saying that this is something that only really benefits those who want to get that juicy HDMI recording.
A Stock PS2 with Component plugged to your TV will give you the sharp image you need, only component isn't properly detected by capture cards and will cause black frames, and halved framerate...
If it wasn't for recording, i'd have never purchased a PS3 ^^
These “juicy“ recordings always bugged me. They should be glad they can get a recording in the first place. Quality is always the primary target instead of Quantity.
Well that's the thing. Nothing else than HDMI truly works. I'm aiming at quality. I need to record footage of every PS1/2 game I've played that I featured in my Timeline project that lasts for over 4 hours.
Gotta make the video version at some point... It's gonna be a ton of work.
Well... if nothing else other than HDMI works for you...
Then that's an exception i'd say
Is not only PS1 PS2 but as well you can backup your PS3 games
And play them through the HDD
