i think that the geometry doesnt cash shadows, just theres one "sun" light in every level vertices that are facing the sun are bright and the ones behind dark

its just weird vertex colors which somehow do weird emission and light up the area

the game without vertex colors will basically look like if you turn on "flat lighting" in the maya viewport and the vertex colors only darken and color things

Adrien says that the vertex colors might be based on the artists real time viewport lighting but i doubt that since its so weird
